Exams

In this page, I will upload the results of each exam session.

Please consider the following guidelines, regarding the realise of exam results. After the publication of the results, students will have 2 or 3 days to check their score. If they feel satisfied, there is nothing they should do. If they do not feel satisfied and prefer to repeat the exam, they should send an email to the me or use the contact form in the Contacts page. In the email students should declare clearly that they intend to refuse the awarded mark. In addition, they should include their student number, the name of the course and that of their study program. 3 days after the publication of the results here, official marks will be realised through the ESSE3 system. Students will have three additional days to comunicate their decision to refuse the awarded mark, using the same procedure highlighted above. After this period, marks will be added to the students' curriculum.

Please be careful:

  1. If I do not receive emails from students, I will assume that they are happy with the awarded mark;

  2. It is students' responsibility to check their mark and to contact me in case they intend to refuse the awarded mark;

  3. After three days from the official release of marks through the ESSE3 system, neither it is possible to modify the awarded mark, nor students may refuse that mark;

  4. When the marks are released in this page, I will also indicate a day when I meet students that wish to discuss their script

During the past exams, it happened sometimes that two scripts have been found to be identical. Usually, students claim that it is just a very strange, unexplainable and unlucky case. While it cannot be excluded that this is in fact possible, I think that reading the notes prepared by James Falkofske (University of Wisconsin Stout) could be very enlightening.

Believe it or not, according to the notes above, the probability that someone writes 5 words that exactly match (also into the same order) those written by someone else (conditional on the number of words that an educated person usually uses)  is smaller that hitting the PowerBall jackpot twice in a row and hitting a hole-in-one. Clearly, such a probability decreases if someone writes more than 5 (say 10) words, matching exactly those used by someone else. Guess which is the probability of having 2 or more pages that exactly match the script written by somone else….
